Surprisingly, one of the main motivations for writing the Lessons for Life Correspondence Course was frustration. I had been trying to help quite a few men over a period of several years with little or no success. These were grown men of all ages who had recently been released from prison.

We might try to pretend we didn’t hear, come up with various reasons why it wasn’t really from Him, or even become lazy about following through, but God is patient and has His own ways of getting us on board.

Yet, even in those environments, there is an unspoken pressure to suppress emotions that might communicate weakness.
